Columbia College to Welcome International Students for Spring Semester 2023

The officials of Columbia College recently announced that they will soon start hosting international students. The hosting will start from the spring semester of 2023. International students will be on an F-1 non-immigration visa, which will allow them to pursue an FS or AA degree at Columbia College.

International students will be required to enroll in a minimum of 12 units per semester while maintaining satisfied educational progress. If students want to work, they will be approved for campus employment only in their first year. Off-campus employment will be permitted after a student’s first year as long as it is related to the student’s major and approved by a Columbia College designated school official.

Columbia College President Dr. Lena Tran said that “the opportunity to serve international students at Columbia College will bring a deeply immersive, personally enriching experience to our students through the opportunity to enjoy exposure to rich cultures and traditions .

Getting approval to host international students has been a long process. In 2019, Dr. Melissa Raby, Vice President of Student Services, petitioned for certification for Columbia College to host F-1 nonimmigrant students through the Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP). The site visit was done in 2021 and the college got approval in 2022.

Dr. Raby also stated that “It has been a goal of mine to start an international program at Columbia College since I started here, and I am pleased to see that it is finally happening.”
